Sermon Outline:

Romans 8:11 (NKJV)

11 But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you.

Ephesians 2:4–6 (NKJV)

4 But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us,

5 even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved),

6 and raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus,

I The bodily resurrection of Christ

Acts 2:23–24 (NKJV)

23 Him, being delivered by the determined purpose and foreknowledge of God, you have taken by lawless hands, have crucified, and put to death;

24 whom God raised up, having loosed the pains of death, because it was not possible that He should be held by it.

Acts 2:32 (NKJV)

32 This Jesus God has raised up, of which we are all witnesses.

II The spiritual resurrection of Christ’s people

1 Peter 1:3 (NKJV)

3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His abundant mercy has begotten us again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,

III The glorious, bodily resurrection of Christ’s people

1 Corinthians 15:42–44 (NKJV)

42 So also is the resurrection of the dead. The body is sown in corruption, it is raised in incorruption.

43 It is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory. It is sown in weakness, it is raised in power.

44 It is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body. There is a natural body, and there is a spiritual body.

Heidelberg Catechism Q 45
Q: What benefit do we receive from the “resurrection” of Christ?
A: First, by his resurrection he has overcome death, that he might make us partakers of the righteousness which he has earned for us by his death. Secondly, by his power we are also now raised up to a new life. Thirdly, the resurrection of Christ is to us a sure pledge of our blessed resurrection.1
