“For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 6:23, ESV)

05/06/2022 – Evening Service: The wretched man and indwelling sin

Bible Readings:

1 John 5:6 – 21

Psalm 119: 169 – 176

Romans 7:1 – 25

Sermon Outline:

Romans 7:14–15 (NKJV)

14For we know that the law is spiritual, but I am carnal, sold under sin.

15For what I am doing, I do not understand. For what I will to do, that I do not practice; but what I hate, that I do.

Romans 7:24–25 (NKJV)

24O wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death?

25I thank God—through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, with the mind I myself serve the law of God, but with the flesh the law of sin.

I The wretched man – who is he?

Galatians 5:16–17 (NKJV)

16I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.

17For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish.

1 Corinthians 9:26–27 (NKJV)

26Therefore I run thus: not with uncertainty. Thus I fight: not as one who beats the air.

27But I discipline my body and bring it into subjection, lest, when I have preached to others, I myself should become disqualified.
