Now it came to pass on the next day that Moses said to the people, “You have committed a great sin. So now I will go up to the Lord; perhaps I can make atonement for your sin.”” (Exodus 32:30, NKJV)

I.  Mountain top communion, rock bottom idolatry.

A.  Moses’ pleading.

II.  The breaking of the covenant.

A.  The intercession of the covenant mediator.

He who covers his sins will not prosper, But whoever confesses and forsakes them will have mercy.” (Proverbs 28:13, NKJV)

For I could wish that I myself were accursed from Christ for my brethren, my countrymen according to the flesh,” (Romans 9:3, NKJV)

whom God set forth as a propitiation by His blood, through faith, to demonstrate His righteousness, because in His forbearance God had passed over the sins that were previously committed, to demonstrate at the present time His righteousness, that He might be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus.” (Romans 3:25–26, NKJV)
