“For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 6:23, ESV)

12/09/2021 – Evening Service: Knowing the times

Bible Readings:

Romans 16:1-27

2 Timothy 3:1-17

Sermon Outline:

2 Tim. 3:1-9

        1     But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come:

        2     For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,

        3     unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good,

        4     traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God,

        5     having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away!

        6     For of this sort are those who creep into households and make captives of gullible women loaded down with sins, led away by various lusts,

        7     always learning and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.

        8     Now as Jannes and Jambres resisted Moses, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, disapproved concerning the faith;

        9     but they will progress no further, for their folly will be manifest to all, as theirs also was.

I Knowing the times

Gen. 49:1 And Jacob called his sons and said, “Gather together, that I may tell you what shall befall you in the last days:

Acts 2:17 “And it shall come to pass in the last days, says God,

That I will pour out of My Spirit on all flesh;

Your sons and your daughters shall prophesy,

Your young men shall see visions,

Your old men shall dream dreams.

Heb. 1:1 God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets,

Heb. 1:2 has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the worlds;

II Knowing what we should do

1Chr. 12:32 of the sons of Issachar who had understanding of the times, to know what Israel ought to do….

Eph. 5

        3     But fornication and all uncleanness or covetousness, let it not even be named among you, as is fitting for saints;

        4     neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor coarse jesting, which are not fitting, but rather giving of thanks.

III Knowing of the eventual victory of the truth

Cf. Jer. 23.17

               They continually say to those who despise Me,

‘The Lord has said, “You shall have peace” ’;

And to everyone who walks according to the dictates of his own heart, they say,

‘No evil shall come upon you.’ ”
