“For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 6:23, ESV)

22/10/2017 – Evening Service: The blessing of assurance

Bible Readings:

John 15:26 – 16:15, Romans 8:1 – 17

Sermon Outline:

Eph. 1:13   In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise, 14 who is the guarantee of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, to the praise of His glory.

I  The fruit of election is faith

II  The confirmation of faith is the seal of the Holy Spirit

2 Cor. 1:21 Now He who establishes us with you in Christ and has anointed us is God, 22 who also has sealed us and given us the Spirit in our hearts as a guarantee.

Rom. 8:9   But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His. 10 And if Christ is in you, the body is dead because of sin, but the Spirit is life because of righteousness. 11 But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you.

III  The work of the Holy Spirit is to bring people to Christ and through the Lord Christ to the Father

Rom. 8:12   Therefore, brethren, we are debtors—not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh. 13 For if you live according to the flesh you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live.

Eph. 4:30 And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.
